Anděl, in Prague’s Smíchov, is so big that it can host up to 1,000 people a day. But while “it might be one of the biggest bars in Prague,” as Václav Buchbauer, Sales and Marketing Manager, says, “we want to satisfy everyone.” And they do that by being a wonderful and varied bar with lots of distinctly different spaces within one venue.
“The bar opened 20 years ago but came under new management in 2011. As with any successful bar, people come for the food as well as the beer – so we hired a chef who was a former member of the Czech National Team. He’s one of the top chefs in the country,” says Václav.
“Our vision is to keep the quality of our beer and food at its highest. We’re never satisfied and we’re always changing small things if it will make our service better. We like to think we serve one of the best beers in Prague.”
As well as the traditional upstairs bars and large courtyard garden restaurant, Anděl has a bowling alley in the basement and there’s a cellar wine bar, making it a varied and interesting place to visit.
This is a traditional Czech hospoda with a modern buzz and seasonal menu, aimed more at a younger and contemporary Czech beer drinker, the perfect place to come in a group, where you can pick where you sit based on how you are feeling for the day.
